This month- as is any- proved rather busy. As a result, I didn’t have the time to look for something new to do. Luckily a friend of mine told me about the foam glow 5k, and plans were immediately set. $20 (early registration) covers your participation, t-shirt and a foam glow temporary tattoo. Just about 20 of us made our way to the stadium between 6 and 7pm. Due to projections in traffic, we were advised by the organization to get there at this time (Approximately 3 hours before the event). If you fail to collect your shirt prior to race day, you can collect it on site. I would advise against it, as it took me approximately 45 minutes in an almost stand still line to collect my shirt and number, and will run you just about $5 more. I would also add that 6pm is way too early. All that’s really needed is just about an hour or so before the race ( a solid 7:45 should be good). There’s a pre-party that starts at 7 and it’s a foam filled fest of house music and thumping energy.
This year’s Miami foam glow took place inside Sun Life Stadium. Runners and walkers alike paced along a weirdly laid out route going around in winding lines with not nearly enough music, foam, or glow. As a result, the run proved to be very dark and pretty quiet. Though the event was without incident, security presence was grossly lacking- an immediate set up for looming adverse effects. There were approximately 4 or 5 glow stations at the run. These consisted of limited coverage black lights accompanied by a lone speaker. Several patrons thought the event could have been markedly improved with several more black lights.
All in all, I’m glad I went. The pre and after parties were definitely where it’s at, and for $20 it’s truly worth it. There was no shortage of foam in the party area and the music was eclectic enough for anyone to enjoy.
I’d recommend trying it at least once. It’s foaming fun, for a good cause.
